Serena Williams is proud of how far she’s come.
The 36-year-old tennis pro took to Instagram on Thursday to reflect on working her way back to the court after giving birth to her daughter, Olympia, and struggling with health complications afterwards.
“4 months ago I could not walk to my mailbox… but I will keep going forward and I’ll get there. #StrongSure #WhatIsYourS,” Williams captioned a photo of herself covered in mud at a Tough Mudder-like event.
Williams posted the inspirational message after losing in the first round of the Miami open on Wednesday. The athlete lost to Japanese player Naomi Osaka.
Osaka was thrilled to meet one of her favorite players, tweeting a photo of Williams shaking her hand after the match and writing, “Omg.”
Williams announced her comeback earlier this month after taking 13 months off from the sport to welcome her daughter. Despite her struggles to get back to the top of her game, Williams recently opened up to ET about her priority shift since becoming a mom.
“Working motherhood is real. It’s so real,” she told ET. “But I have my priorities and Olympia is that. And Alexis works all the time as well. He’s not even here right now, he’s working on his new VC fund. So, that’s great! But I’m never a day without Olympia. She’s my priority and everyday I need to be home with her. I don’t wanna miss any moments with her.”
