Julian Castro leaves presidential race

The only Latino in the electoral contest is blunt: “I have determined that it is simply not our moment”

The former Secretary of Housing and former Mayor of San Antonio, Texas, Julian Castro, leaves the presidential race, after failing to increase the support intentions in the polls.

The only candidate in the Democratic primary said Thursday that he declined his aspirations for the Presidency, considering that it was not the time for the progressive movement he led, focused on immigration policies, fight against poverty and judicial reform.

“I have determined that it is simply not our time,” Castro said in a video message of almost four minutes posted on his Twitter account. “With deep gratitude to all our followers, today I suspend my campaign for president. I am very proud of everything we have achieved together. I will continue fighting for an America where everyone counts, I hope you will join me in that fight. ”

Castro did not get enough support in the national and state outposts to participate in the last two debates between Democrats.

Castro is not clear about his political future, but in an interview with Brad Jenkins for his Fired Up! She showed that Elizabeth Warren showed her closeness and sympathy for her.

“Senator Warren is probably the person I have talked to most about other candidates. We have sat down a couple of times and when we see each other in debates and other events. I believe in his world. And I think she is fantastic, ”he said.

Warren was among the first to express the departure of Castro’s contest, from whom he thanked his efforts during the campaign by promoting a progressive agenda “to help the people who need it most now.”

He added that the Texas native allowed the electoral competition to be stronger, in addition to predicting a future as one of the leaders of the Democratic Party and the country “for many years.”
