Government of Honduras confirms first two cases of the new coronavirus in the country

TEGUCIGALPA – Two people tested positive for the new coronavirus in Honduras, the Ministry of Health reported in a statement on Wednesday.



The first case is a 42-year-old pregnant woman and, according to the statement, is a Honduran who had traveled to Spain and entered the country on March 4 at the Toncontín International Airport in Tegucigalpa. The person is hospitalized and his condition is stable, the secretariat reported.

The second case is a 37-year-old Honduran woman who entered the country on March 5 on a flight from Switzerland. This woman remains isolated at home with medical surveillance, the statement details.



The Office of Health assures that it will apply the monitoring protocol to all people who may have had contact with the two patients and added that “the second phase of the Plan for Containment and Response is activated at the national level to contain the spread and mitigate negative impacts in people’s health and in the Honduran economy. ”

The Government of Honduras asked the population to calm down and follow the instructions issued by the Ministry of Health.
