Puerto Rico – Reports of coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, are on the rise on the island of Puerto Rico, after adding 109 positive results for the virus and two additional deaths, according to the most recent report from the Department of Health.
This represents 897 positive cases and 44 deaths. Yesterday, at the time that Governor Wanda Vázquez announced an extension to the curfew until May 3, the number was 788 infected and 42 deaths.
The results of the private laboratories registered 107 positive cases. This increase responds to the fact that all of these positives group tests that were carried out in the period from March 24 to April 3 and whose results were received in recent days. Added to this number are a result reported by the Public Health Laboratory and an additional one reported by the Veterans Hospital, an increase that amounts to 109. The accumulated total of COVID-19 cases on the island rises to 897, of which 426 are females and 471 males.
Among the positive results, the number of cases with coronavirus in the municipality of San Juan reached 120, which is representative of new cases reported by Private Laboratories, as well as cases that, after validating the numbers with personnel from the Municipal Hospital of the capital city, were adjudicated and removed from the line of cases with no municipality available.
The two deceased persons are identified as two men, one 70 years old from the Ponce region and the other 77, from the Caguas region, who were still receiving treatment in their respective hospitals after testing positive for COVID-19. However, his clinical pictures were complicated until he died.
“The contagion threshold continues to rise, so we still have to continue fighting. Strict measures of social distancing and hygiene, compliance with the curfew and the use of masks as individual and collective protection, are the only tools that will allow us to flatten the curve and prevent the spread of the virus. COVID-19 remains a deadly threat that we can stop if we strictly follow the government’s instructions. The call continues to remain in their homes and not risk their lives, “said Dr. Lorenzo González, secretary of the Department of Health.
A total of 7,973 COVID-19 tests have already been carried out in Puerto Rico, of which 5,819 have been negative and some 1,251 are still awaiting the results.
