‘Lucifer’ Season 5 Becomes Biggest Opening Weekend For A TV Series On Netflix

Lucifer season 5 broke the record in being the biggest opening weekend for a TV series on Netflix beating The Umbrella Academy.

According to data from FlixPatrol and What’s On Netflix’s analysis, Lucifer scored 670 points over its opening weekend. The top spot in a country is worth 10 points, position 10 is worth 1 point, and not being in the top 10 is worth 0.

Its opening weekend means it beat The Umbrella Academy (which had 643 points) and is now the most successful debut on Netflix for a TV series since the debut of the top 10 feature (in the end of February 2020).

It rises to the fourth biggest opening weekend debut overall with The Old Guard sitting at position 1, Project Power at 2, The Kissing Booth 2 at position 3.

Debuted on Friday morning, Lucifer Season 5 quickly became the top weekend binge option for Netflix users in the US, according to Forbes. Project Power, a Netflix original film, had an impressive run at #1 on the list heading into the weekend, having held the top spot for an entire week.

However, on Saturday morning, the first day after arriving on Netflix, Lucifer shot to #1 on the Top 10 list. The popular series has stayed in the top spot since, not letting any other new entries past. Other new releases this past weekend include The Sleepover and Rust Valley Restorers.

Lucifer is a story about Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), the Lord of Hell, who has abandoned his throne and retired to L.A. He is introduced to LAPD homicide detective, Chloe Decker (Lauren German), and struggles between the two sides of good and evil.

Premiering in 2014, the show initially ran on Fox for three seasons before it was canceled in 2018, which sparked a massive response from fans. A month later, Netflix resurrected Lucifer for a fourth season that debuted last May.

In June 2019, the streamer renewed Lucifer for a 10-episode fifth and final season. But then a month later, it increased the order to 16 episodes. In June 2020, it has been renewal for season 6.

Lucifer season 5 part 1 (8 episodes) is now streaming on Netflix.

However, it’s unclear when Netflix will debut the second half of the season.
