Shahidi is the first black woman to be cast for the role as Disney brings their latest live-action adaptation to life.
The actor is set to play Tinkerbell in Disney’s Peter Pan and Wendy, the studio’s latest live-action adaptation. Shahidi joins a cast that features Jude Law as Captain Hook, with Alexander Molony as Peter Pan and newcomer Ever Anderson as Wendy.
“Thank you for all of your love. It, truly, means so much to me ???♂️ I’m excited for this next adventure!” she shared via Instagram.
Shahidi, who is best known for her starring role on ABC’s Black-ish, as well as the leading character and producer of Freeform’s Grown-ish, is not letting her foot off the gas anytime soon. In addition to her new role as Tinkerbell, the Hollywood starlet and activist recently signed an overall deal with ABC Studios, which means more content from one of our favorite young stars is coming soon.
And of course, fans couldn’t be more excited.
“We’re getting Yara Shahidi as Tinkerbell AND Halle Bailey as Ariel???? THIS IS WHAT I LIKE TO SEE,” one user wrote. “Black women: WINNING. Racists: mad” another fan said.
