Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting a second baby, they have confirmed.
In a statement, the spokesperson said: “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”
So far, that’s all we know about the new royal arrival, but the announcement on Valentine’s Day means that they will have a new arrival in the family to care for alongside one-year-old Archie, born in May 2019.
This latest news comes just a short matter of months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that Meghan had suffered a miscarriage.
In July last year, she wrote a piece in the New York Times speaking about the ‘unbearable grief’ that she had endured.
In the emotional and insightful piece, she spoke about how she experienced a pain in her stomach as she was changing Archie, and wrote: “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.”
She also acknowledged that many women had experienced a pregnancy loss, but few ever have the platform to discuss the grief that they go through as a result.
The article continued: “The conversation remains taboo, riddled with (unwarranted) shame, and perpetuating a cycle of solitary mourning.”
Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Harry and Meghan have been isolating at their residence in Santa Barbara, California.
Despite keeping themselves out of the public eye, they have been engaging in several virtual appearances.
Meghan also said that she’d enjoyed having the extra downtime alongside her young son.
She added: “For us, we’re trying to embrace all of the quality time we get with our son right now and to not miss a single moment of his growth and development, which has been really special.”
Harry also said that he’s been enjoying all of Archie’s milestones, and having this unique opportunity to witness them all whilst they’re at home, which might not have been the case were it not for the pandemic.
He said: “We were both there for Archie’s first steps, his first run, his first fall, everything,”
Meghan added: “In so many ways we are fortunate to be able to have this time to watch him grow, and in the absence of COVID, we would be traveling and working more externally.
“We’d miss a lot of those moments. So I think it’s been a lot of really good family time.”
