Growing Acceptance of AI Among Workers in the Office

Amid mounting pressures on productivity, workers increasingly view artificial intelligence as a tool to enhance efficiency, according to new research.

A recent PwC survey found a significant shift in attitudes: now, nearly three in five (57%) UK employees believe that generative AI tools could improve their efficiency, a stark increase from just one in five (19%) in the previous year’s report.

This surge in AI interest coincides with a dynamic work environment where nearly two-thirds (60%) of respondents reported experiencing more changes at work over the past year compared to previous years, often coupled with increased workloads noted by 41% of participants.

Covering 56,600 workers across 50 countries, including 2,000 from the UK, the survey revealed that 45% of respondents feel overwhelmed by the pace of change, with a similar proportion (40%) expressing uncertainty about the necessity of these changes.

Despite these challenges, three out of four workers expressed readiness to adapt to workplace transformations, and two out of three (65%) expressed enthusiasm for new opportunities.

Sarah Moore, PwC UK’s Head of Workforce, remarked, “Workers indicate they are motivated and prepared to embrace AI and other changes, but the constant disruption can also create stress. Employers can play a pivotal role by providing clear strategies and equipping their workforce with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate these changes effectively.”
