Mandy Moore Gets a Mount Kilimanjaro Tattoo to Commemorate Her Hike: See the Pics!

It was a walk to remember! 

Now that Mandy Moore has completed her bucket-list hike up Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, the actress has gotten a tattoo to commemorate the achievement. 

The This Is Us star shared photos of her new ink — a fine line tattoo of the mountain in profile — via Instagram on Thursday. 

“The mountain. Forever commemorated. Thank you @winter_stonefor the reminder of what we accomplished. #kilimanjaro,” she wrote. 

The three photos include one of the finished tattoo and two of the inking in-process. 

Moore’s once-in-a-lifetime trip occurred last month, when she, her fiancé, Taylor Goldsmith, and a few of their friends landed in the East African nation to tackle the continent’s highest mountain. She shared pictures from the incredible journey via Instagram when she returned. 

On the night of our ascent to the summit, we woke up at 11pm (after a few hours of napping) to enjoy a couple of nervous minutes together with a cup of coffee before it was time to gear up in my our warmest layers and start the nearly 8 hour trek to highest point in Africa- 19,341 ft. In total darkness, we took it pole pole (slow slow) and trudged through rain, sleet and snow, where seemingly everything on our person managed to freeze (water bottles, backpacks, our eyelashes, hair, fingers, toes, etc…) Oddly, I’ve never felt more determined to tackle such a physical challenge before and yet the combined elements of exhaustion and extremely cold weather made it much trickier than any of us were prepared for. All of that aside, ultimately reaching the threshold of the true summit was more emotional and overwhelming than I had thought possible. Kilimanjaro demands a lot from those who traverse her trails. You have no choice but to show up. And we did. Climbing Kilimanjaro had been one of the 34-year-old actress’ longest-held dreams — she even joked last year about incorporating it into her honeymoon plans. Looks like she’ll have to come up with a new idea now!
