Avicii’s Body Will Be Flown Home to Sweden This Week

Avicii‘s body is heading home.

The body of the late DJ, who died on Friday, will be flown to his home of Sweden this week, ET has learned. Avicii — real name Tim Bergling — was found dead in Muscat, Oman, where he was on vacation. A cause of death has not been released.

In a statement to ET on Friday, Avicii’s rep said, “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii. He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20th.”

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time,” the statement continued. “No further statements will be given.”

Muscat Hills Resort, where Avicii was staying in Oman, released a statement on Instagram on Saturday, writing that while they couldn’t provide details about the DJ’s stay due to privacy reasons, “he was extremely kind to all our staff and acted like any of our regular guests.”

“Avicii definitely did seem to be in good spirits while enjoying his time and he was also very friendly with everyone,” the post read. “As much as we enjoyed his company here at Muscat Hills Resort, we are extremely sad to hear and read all the recent news and therefore we would like to express our sincere condolences to his family, friends and all his fans.”

Avicii’s fans and friends have come together since the news of his death to pay tribute to the music producer, with his pal Kygo sweetly honoring him during his set at Coachella on Friday night.

“Coachella, I think most of you guys have heard, but today is a very sad day for music,” he told the crowd. “Earlier today I got the news that Avicii passed away [at] only 28 years old. Avicii was my biggest musical inspiration and he was the reason I started making electronic music so I don’t think I would’ve been on this stage tonight if it wasn’t for him.”

“I know he’s inspired millions of other producers out there. So I want to end my set tonight with my favorite Avicii song,” he concluded, before playing Avicii’s 2017 single, “Without You.” The song ended with a black-and-white photo of Avicii displayed on a screen alongside the words “Rest in peace. We will miss you.”
