Senator José Peralta Dies of Heart Attack

The dawn of the Thanksgiving Day died the senator democratic Jose Peralta of a cardiac infato. He was 47 years old. He was born in New York and was a politician of Dominican origin who at the age of 8 moved with his parents from upper Manhattan to Queens.

Peralta studied in public schools and graduated in 1996 from Queens College with a degree in psychology. In that university he was the first president of the Latino Student Group, thus showing his political vein. He always showed his support for immigrants, including when he worked for the Central Labor Council.

In 2002 he was elected assemblyman of the 39th district of Queens and since 2010 he served as state senator, representing the 13th district comprising neighborhoods such as Corona, East Emhurst, Jackson Hieghts and Woodside.

On September 13, he was defeated at the polls by Jessica Ramos , after registering last year at the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC).

“He has died very young,” said Ramos, who will replace Peralta in January 2019. “I recognize that in his heart he always loved his community. He was a true public servant. Strength and love for his wife, children and loved ones. ”

His wife is Evelyn and their two children are Myles and Matthew, who live in Jackson Heights. Senator Peralta died in his apartment.

The mayor of New York, Bill de Blasio , said it was a great loss. John J. Flanagan , a majority leader in the state Senate, said the news of his death took him by surprise. “Senator Peralta was a fighter for the issues that he was passionate about and he always served Queens. On behalf of the state senate, we send our condolences to all those who knew and loved him. The Senate is like a family and one of our members has left very early.Rest in peace”.
