Are They Mercenaries?: Haiti Arrests 5 U.S. Ex-Militaries In The Midst Of Protests

The Haitian authorities detained seven foreigners and a local citizen with firearms and whites, ammunition, satellite communication equipment, drones and other accessories in Port-au-Prince on February 17th, the newspaper Le Nouvelliste reported.

That group was traveling in two vehicles without license plates — although it had several circulation plates whose authenticity has not been determined — and, at first, they refused to abandon those cars with the argument that they were working for the government of Jovenel brace.

In the network, a video has been released in which the alleged detainees appear, with their  faces covered, while they are in a police station in the capital of Haiti.
Seven of the suspects -Kroeker Kent Leland, Danilo Bajavic, Vlad Jankovic, Burton Talon, Christopher Osman M, Daniel Dustin, and Michael Mat are -five U.S. citizens, one Haitian, one Russian, and one Serb.

The U.S. State Department is aware that the Haitian police arrested “a group that includes U.S. citizens ” with “Military history “, reports Reuters.
One of them, Kroeker Kent Leland, is a partner and chief operating officer of private security company Kroeker Partners, a former Marine with a long military, business and crisis management career, according to the company’s website.

Haiti has been protesting massively since the 7th of February, the result of the social and economic crisis that it is going through and a corruption scandal involving several members of the political class, including the country’s president.
In the streets of Port-au-Prince There are cars on fire, trades have been looted and violent clashes occur between protesters and police, who have left several dead, dozens injured and have caused significant material damage.
