Penn State finally gets on the board in Columbus

If Ohio State is clearly the Big Ten’s best team — undefeated, ranked second in the country, scoring oodles of points and featuring Chase Young, perhaps college football’s best player — who is the conference’s second-best representative?

There’s a good chance it’s No. 8 Penn State, whose résumé is strong — two wins over ranked teams, electric wide receiver K.J. Hamler (who is active for today’s game after suffering an unspecified injury last week), steady quarterback play from Sean Clifford — but has one glaring blemish: that loss to Minnesota two weeks ago. If the Nittany Lions can make amends on Saturday at Ohio State, then things get all kind of messy.

Another big break for Penn State

The Nittany Lions are in business again after Micah Parsons forced a J.K. Dobbins fumble and the loose ball was scooped up by LaMont Wade. That set Penn State up at the Buckeyes’ 12-yard line, and two plays later, fill-in quarterback Will Levis ran it in for a 1-yard touchdown. All of a sudden, it’s a one-score game.
