Oscars 2021: New voters announced – full list of every actor, director and writer invited to join Academy

Academy has made good of its promise to diversify membership following recent controversies

The full list of new Oscar members who’ll be able to vote at future ceremonies has been revealed.

Following controversy over lack of representation in recent years, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has made good of its promise to diversify membership.

Should every actor, crew member and executive accept their invitation, international membership will rise to 49 per cent from 68 countries.

“The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travellers in the motion picture arts and sciences,” Academy president David Rubin said in a statement.

Meanwhile, 45 per cent of all new members will be women.

“We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now,” Rubin continued.

Last month, it was announced that a task force had been developed to “implement” representation standards.

The Academy said: “Through dedicated and intentional work by the Board of Governors and members on the branch executive committees, the Academy has surpassed both these goals.”

Next year’s ceremony has been delayed to 2021. Ten films will be nominated for Best Picture.
