These are the new rules to enter Puerto Rico through airports from July 15

Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced announced that all passengers must bring a negative molecular test for COVID-19.

If you plan to travel to Puerto Rico as of July 15, know that the rules for entering the island have changed due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 in various states of the United States and countries around the world.

Here we explain in detail what the new government guidelines are and how airports will work.

The use of the mask will be compulsory for all travelers.

Any person may travel to Puerto Rico but must bring the negative result of a COVID-19 molecular test carried out 72 hours before arriving on the island.

If a traveler was tested for coronavirus 72 hours before leaving for Puerto Rico and tested positive, they will not be able to travel to the country.

In the event that a passenger has not undergone the required test, he will have to keep a mandatory 14-day quarantine and perform a molecular test for the virus in a laboratory in the country.

If the result of the molecular test carried out by the traveler on his own is negative, he may be released from quarantine. If positive, you should continue in isolation.

Those who do not bring a negative COVID-19 test result may have a serological test for the virus at the airport. This process will be in charge of the National Guard.

If the result of the serological test carried out by the National Guard is negative, the person must, however, keep a quarantine of 14 days. If the result is positive, the passenger will undergo a molecular test at the same airport that they have arrived at.

All travelers will have to fill out a form for tracking purposes by the Surveillance System of the Department of Health. In the case of Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, in Carolina, the form will be available through the SJU Insider website and on paper.

-In the form, the travelers will place their basic information and will be able to attach the evidence of the negative result of the COVID-19 test if it has been done.

Using the information placed on the form, travelers will receive text messages to their cell phones every day with automated questions about their health. In case the person did not answer, personnel from the Health Department will communicate directly with the traveler.

The travelers will have a reasonable time to answer the questions, but if they do not send their data they are exposed to a violation of the executive order that provides for the controls at airports.

Aviation mechanics and flight crew members who are not going to stay in Puerto Rico for a period of 72 hours will be exempt from quarantine. Other exempts are active military, federal agents, or others authorized by the Secretary of Health.
