Britney Spears Would Reportedly “Like to Tell Her Story,” But Isn’t Ready to Do a Tell-All Oprah Interview Just Yet

The pop star also said her mother is encouraging her to start singing again.

After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive sit-down interview with Oprah earlier this month, fans on social media demanded that Britney Spears be given the same opportunity. But while the pop star is reportedly interested in telling her side of the story, it seems she’s not quite ready to receive the Oprah treatment just yet.

“The report about Britney considering a tell-all is greatly exaggerated and essentially giving false hope to the fans who tweeted calls for it after the Harry and Meghan interview,” a source close to Spears told Us Weekly. “Britney would like to tell her story and has always wanted to write a memoir, but the conservatorship makes that difficult and it’s not something on her immediate radar, anyway.”

A second source explained that, at the moment, the singer is considering alternate platforms through which she can express herself. “Britney hasn’t mentioned doing an interview. She wants to speak and could do so on social media with the assistance of [boyfriend Sam Asghari] on his platforms if it got to be this emergency situation for her,” they said, adding, “She doesn’t want to be filtered.”

And it’s not just fans who are begging Spears to use her voice. Her mother Lynn Spears is also encouraging her to start singing again. On Friday, the pop star posted an old video of herself singing The Jets’ “You Got It All,” which she covered on her 2000 album Oops!… I Did It Again. She captioned the clip, “Geez … My mom sent this to me and reminded me that I can sing!!!! She said ‘You never sing anymore … you need to again !!!!’” She added, “I’ve actually never watched this performance … it’s definitely from a while ago !!!! It’s from one of the first trips I took alone … mostly I just remember saying ‘WOW Singapore.’”

Earlier this year, Spears shared another throwback clip, from her Las Vegas residency, to explain why she’s currently taking a break from performing. “I’ll always love being on stage,” she wrote, “but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ….. I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life !!!! Each person has their story and their take on other people’s stories !!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives !!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person’s life it is nothing compared to the actual person living behind the lens !!!!”

The singer’s lawyer Samuel D. Ingham III also shed some light on this professional pause during a court hearing over her conservatorship last November, saying that his client “is afraid of her father” and “will not perform again if her father is in charge of her career.” So it seems that if fans are expecting a new album, world tour, or prime-time interview from Spears anytime in the near future, they could be left waiting for quite awhile.
