Looks like Lil Nas X is trying to break the internet again.
The Grammy-winning hip-hop superstar may have outdone himself with the announcement for his forthcoming album, “Montero.”
On Thursday, the “Old Town Road” hitmaker posted “maternity” photos of himself on social media, announcing that he was expecting a “little bundle of joy.”
Wearing a floral headdress and a dressing gown, with matching pants, Lil Nas X caresses his protruding bare belly in the image shot by filmmaker Adrian Per.
The “baby” he is expecting is the eagerly anticipated debut outing, due Sept. 17 via Columbia Records.
The publicity stunt follows Wednesday’s unveiling of the album’s track list in a video posted to his social media platforms.
In the clip, a naked Lil Nas X tumbles from the sky and into the album’s paradise-like setting – and continues to fall. The titles of the tracks flash by as he falls.
“Montero” will include the previously released singles “Industry Baby” and “Sun Goes Down,” as well as the hit title track. A wide variety of guests show up on the opus, including the Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, and Elton John.
Lil Nas X’s collaboration with John, “One of Me,” will also be included on the British pop-rock legend’s newly announced compilation album “The Lockdown Sessions,” due out Oct. 22.
The history-making record breaker (whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill) said he came up with the idea to do the eye-popping photoshoot after listening to Megan Thee Stallion’s verse on his new song “Dolla Sign Slime” for the first time.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing,’ so I immediately called my stylist,” he told People. “She was like, ‘Wow, this all comes together. Your album. Your baby.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, this is my baby, huh?’ As a joke, she was like, ‘Yeah, you should do a pregnancy shoot.’”
Over the past two years, the 23-year-old artist has become a master of media attention – specifically the social kind — using the digital platforms to announce he is gay, bolster sales of his best-selling children’s book, promote his jaw-dropping, queer-themed music videos, and selling his controversial “Satan Shoes.”
Lil Nas X is confirmed to perform at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on Sept. 12 so there’s no telling what he has in store to get tongues wagging.
