Synology DSM 7.2.2 update

Synology DSM 7.2.2 update

The most recent update for DSM 7.2 was version 7.2.1, released in September 2023. Since then, five incremental updates have been introduced.

DSM 7.2.1-69057 brought minor system changes and security patches to the Synology DSM 7.2.1 OS.

Looking ahead, the next anticipated release is DSM 7.2.2. While an official date has not been confirmed yet, it is expected to arrive sometime in Q3, with the latest possible release by the end of the year.

Typically, Synology follows a staged rollout process, initially launching updates in Eastern regions like Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Japan, followed approximately a month later by the US, EU, and other parts of the world.

Users will have the option to manually update to the new version from day one, but it’s advisable to wait for detailed information on the changes and how they may impact users.

Regarding updates, there’s feedback from Synology support indicating that the new version of Docker will replace the current deprecated version included in DSM 7.2.1.

Additionally, users can expect package updates and enhancements to functionality and security fixes. Synology has a history of deprecating or consolidating functionalities, particularly third-party apps, with each new minor or major version release. Therefore, it’s prudent not to rush into DSM updates without reviewing the release notes carefully.

As always, it’s important to exercise caution when updating DSM, as official downgrades are not supported, and attempting one should only be considered as a last resort.
