2018 Met Gala: 3 Reasons Why This Will Be the Most Epic One Yet

This year’s Met Gala will not disappoint!

Next Monday, celebrities and supermodels alike will hit the red carpet at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art in their wildest styles for the event that is oftentimes referred to as the Fashion Oscars.

While it’s always fun to check out who’s wearing what at this swanky soiree, the 2018 Met Gala is sure to be next level.

Here’s why:

1. The Co-Chairs

You’d be hard-pressed to think of a better trio of fashionistas than Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace. The human rights attorney, pop star and high-fashion designer will serve as co-chairs at this year’s Met Gala, along with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, to the delight of fashion fans everywhere.

This will be Amal’s second Met Gala. The 40-year-old attorney — who welcomed twins last year — first attended with husband George Clooney in 2015, when the theme was “China: Through the Looking Glass,” and wore a red Maison Margiela “Artisanal” gown created specifically for her by John Galliano.

As for Rihanna, she’s attended the Met Gala seven times, with her first being in 2007. The 30-year-old singer still can’t top Donatella’s attendance record at the annual event, though. The 63-year-old designer made her debut at the ball in 1995 and has attended a total of 16 times.

2. The Theme

We can’t wait to see what Rihanna steps out in this year! The theme of the Met Gala will be “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination,” which is sure to inspire some outlandish outfits and maybe even a little controversy.

Expect rosary beads and nun-inspired frocks on the red carpet. Styles such as Beyonce’s Virgin Mary-like costume at the 2017 GRAMMYs and Nicki Minaj’s 2012 GRAMMYs outfit are what we’re expecting when the stars descend onto the museum.

3. Ocean’s 8

Not only is Rihanna co-chairing the Met Gala, she’s also co-starring in a movie all about the big event.

Before RiRi, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Mindy Kaling and Awkwafina attempt a heist at the Met Gala when Ocean’s 8 hits theaters on June 8, it’s expected that they’ll attend the actual event.

We cannot wait to see if this power cast will be mingling on the red carpet in their Monday best! Bullock has not attended the Met Gala since 2007, while Hathaway is a regular at the soiree. If Awkwafina shows up, this will be her first Met Gala.

Needless to say, there’s lots to look forward come the first Monday in May, so keep checking back to see all the jaw-dropping styles!

In the meantime, here’s a look at some of the most outrageous styles at last year’s Met Gala that prove it’s the only fashion event that matters!
