Hundreds of people ask for the impeachment of Donald Trump in Times Square

Thousands of people came to the central New York square in Times Square on Tuesday to request that the political trial be carried out with which President Donald Trump is set to take office, on the eve of the start of the vote in Congress.

It is part of a series of more than 600 protests organized throughout the United States under the slogan “Nobody is Above the Law” with which it is intended to pressure members of Congress to vote in favor of Trump’s departure at the impeachment, whom Democrats accuse of abuse of power.

In New York, Trump’s hometown, demonstrators attended umbrellas in hand, protecting themselves from the insistent rain that has fallen on the city throughout the day on Tuesday, and with banners against the US president.

“Trump out, Russians out,” one of them said, referring to the president’s alleged ties to the Russian government and interference in the country’s past presidential elections.

“Impeachment for the aspiring dictator before it’s too late.” , or “We need a leader, not a dirty cheater,” demanded the posters of the protesters. Attendees gathered around a large banner that read Section 4 of Article 8 of the  Constitution , which contemplates the impeachment of a president in case of treason, bribes, serious crimes or minor offenses.

There were also shouts of “No more years!” before the possibility that Trump, to overcome the political trial, be re-elected as president of the country in the presidential elections that will be held in November 2020.

After passing through Times Square, the group of protesters went through much of the central area of Manhattan while heading to Union Square, where the protest ended. This is just one of the hundreds of demonstrations to call for Trump’s departure that has sponsored the “Impeach and Remove” group with the help of some of the most important protest groups in the country, such as “Women’s March” or “March for Truth.”

This Wednesday it is expected that the lower house will vote in the plenary on the political charges against Trump, which will probably come forward thanks to the comfortable majority that the Democrats have, which would give the green light to a impeachment process against the president in the Senate that would begin in January.

Given Republican control in the Upper House, 53 versus 47, and that the political trial also requires a two-thirds majority, Trump’s impeachment seems highly unlikely.

In September, Democrats announced the start of a political trial investigation against Trump, after an informant revealed to the Intelligence services the content of a telephone conversation in July between the president and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodimir Zelenski. In it, Trump asked Zelenski to open investigations against his political rival and former vice president, Democrat Joe Biden, and his son Hunter for alleged corruption in that country.
